Moore and Rains Motorsports Embark on STN
Howard Moore and Rains Motorsports embarked on three-straight days of racing of I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Ark.) with the 15th annual Ralph Henson Memorial on Thursday night.
A staggering 74 American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Midsouth Region entries registered for battle. Pill draw lined Howard up sixth on the starting grid for his heat race, and he charged to a third-place finish.
While his heat race performance didn't lock him into the feature, it did earn him the pole position for a B-Main, which he won.
Starting 15th on the feature grid, Howard was an early retiree after suffering damage to the tail tank of his No. 3 Sprinter on the opening circuit. He was credited with an 18th-place finish.
Action continued on Friday night as the 35th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals officially came to life. A whopping 84 Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series entries were on hand, and the field was divided into a pair of $1,500-to-win prelim events.
Howard qualified third fastest in his group, which lined him up second on the starting grid for his heat race. He raced to the heat race win, which locked him into the fifth-starting spot for the 20-lap prelim feature.
He would race in the Top 10 throughout the finale before crossing the finish line in eighth.
The weekend drew to a close on Saturday night with the final-ever event at the 1/4-mile oval. Howard started his night with a heat race win to lock into the 12th-starting spot for the coveted $15,041-to-win finale.
Moore battled the handle in the feature to cross the finish line in 16th.
